About Thai Passports

The Thai passport, issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, ranks 63rd globally according to the Henley Passport Index 2025. Thanks to Thailand’s expanding international relations and participation in regional partnerships like ASEAN, Thai citizens enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 80 destinations around the world.

One of the key benefits of holding a Thai passport is visa-free access to all ASEAN member countries, making travel within Southeast Asia particularly convenient. In 2021, the Thai passport was ranked 72nd, but over the past two years, it has improved steadily and now holds the 63rd position.

For comprehensive information, refer to the Thailand passport guide, which covers visa-free countries, passport validity, eTA requirements, visa-on-arrival and e-visa options, necessary travel documents, and important travel guidelines for Thai citizens.

How Long is a Thai Passport Valid?

Thai passports are valid for 10 years. While there was a time when they were valid for 5 years, the validity was extended to 10 years in 2019.

What Does a Thai Passport Look Like?

A standard Thai passport comes with a medium brown cover and prominently displays Thailand's national emblem at the centre. Above the emblem, you'll find the words "หนังสือเดินทาง ประเทศไทย" (meaning ‘Passport, Thailand' in Thai), while the English text "THAILAND - PASSPORT" is printed below. Thailand also issues other types of passports with distinct colours: blue for official passports, red for diplomatic passports, and green for temporary passports.
